Smell-o-Net or Kaori Tsushin

Modern technology is constantly evolving. Scientists constantly work hard to attain newer and improved versions of the electronic equipments, software, facilities etc, to better the life of men. How does it help? The answer to this question is another question. Can you think of spending a day without your mobile phone or checking the internet to see whether you have a new mail? For most people, the answer is no. This is why any newer technology always attracts your attention. Well, now let us come to the point. There are equipments which satisfy your sense of sight and hearing. You have movies to watch and music to hear. This is in addition to the reading on internet. But do we have some technology to satisfy the sense of smell?

NTT communications corp, a technology company in Japan is keen on developing a modern technology called Kaori Tsushin, which is Fragrance communications to aid in this. So what does this technology do? It is an internet linked fragrance system, which would be able to produce a variety of scents or smell. This would be delivered to the customer as per demand and aims at providing a satisfying experience.

Wondering who would be interested in such a technology? Well, a lot of people have been asking this question. But ask the owners of the restaurants. It is understood that people have always ordered food items which appealed to their sense of smell as well as the sense of taste. So if the restaurants could post their recipes on a website and the customers accessing the website to check on the food items on the menu, can get the appealing smell, the business would improve. For these people, this is enough reason to order this technology.

And this technology has undergone severe tests also. The technology was tested at Kirin City beer hall, one of the branches of a chain pub in one of the busiest underground mall in Japan. A sign post was placed at the entrance of the pub, with a tall glass of beer on it and a woman dressed only in a bikini, and the sign is connected to the fragrance emitter which is connected to the internet, and works according to the commands placed in the internet. During lunch hours, a fragrance of orange and lemon was released and during dinner time, a lime scent was emitted. The test was intended to see whether the scents attracted more customers than the usual, that is when the scent was not released, and also to see which one of the scents worked better. The test was conducted hoping that the olfactory stimuli being provided would lure the customers at the mall, to enter the pub.

The test was also conducted at some movie theatres in Tokyo and Osaka, where the scents were emitted during the show, the test proved to be very successful. The theatres were packed during the time when the scents were emitted and less otherwise. Till this time, all the tests conducted on the fragrances have been so successful.

If you want to purchase the fragrance technology for your industry or home, it is now possible. The technology can be downloaded from the site of NTT and then uploaded on the site of aromageur, which is the dispenser of the fragrance. Several enchanting smells like lavender, pepper mint, chocolate etc are available for a cost. The simple experiment which started off as an effort to expand business of a communications company now seem to be heading up.
